Ooooh, good post. I'm current reading The Sot-Weed Factor by John Barth. I will probably be reading it for a long time to come. I also started reading The Memory of Running by Ron White recently. I just finished The Man Who Ate the 747 by Ben Sherwood. I also just finished reading Dear Mr. Henshaw by Beverly Cleary to my class. I think next up for me is a book about a teacher, his class, and what they write called I Am A Pencil by Sam Swope. That's all I can think of right now.
I'm reading Catch-22 for my book club. Which meets Wednesday. I'm only on page 60. This isn't looking too good.
I LOVE LOVED Life of Pi. I was so intrigued by it while in Australia, but didn't feel like paying for it because it seemed sort of odd. So I waited until I got home and checked it out from the library because yes, libraries rule. And I thought it was great!
Yes Brendan, how is Curious Incident? I was thinking about picking that for my book when I get to choose for the book club.
How are you liking the Dawn Cook books, Ayelet?
Ayelet,
I just read Life of Pi and I liked it a lot and would recommend it to almost everyone... The Curious Incident, I finished today and am not overly impressed by the book. I must first say that having the narrator be autistic was risky. It didn't do it for me. I was not a fan of the characters or the story. The concept is good and there are a few interesting insights into the mind of an autistic kid, nonetheless I was frustrated by the simple sentence structure and flawed characters. So no recommendation by me in that I was on page 170 out of 200 and i was stuck disliking everyone. I decided to finish up to see any resolution and I'll let you read it to see what your thoughts are.
My boring and unending list consists of computer books (I bought 2 more at Borders today), and comics from Ayelet that she has on her "comic afficionado's required reading list", like X-men and The Tick.
The more interesting ones which I keep promising myself to read include (in no particular order): Bruce Lee: Words of the Dragon; Burning Chrome by William Gibson; Fight Club (yes, the movie one) by Chuck Palahniuk; Too Beautiful for You, Rod Liddle; The Cat's Pajamas, Ray Bradbury; The Wu-Tang Manual, The RZA; Just a Geek, Wil Wheaton.
There's also a Star Wars Clone Wars novel somewhere in the mix too.
Ayelet,
Thanks for the suggestion. I really enjoyed reading Kavalier and Clay and have seen Chabon's new book out on the shelves. What a great writer and terrific book.
A few books to recommend:
Bel Canto by Ann Patchett
Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides
The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy
Hope you enjoy!
